Hey folks,
I have a '94 Civic DX Hatchback with auto trans and a D15 motor. Its been my daily driver, got me through college, I love it. I just got a new car, and I am thinking of turning the civic into a project car. Couple questions for the people that have been there...
Auto/manual swap...big deal? installing clutch pedal etc etc...sounds like a job.
Which motor...I hear the B16A gets praise for forced induction. My new car is a GSR...I guess it would be interesting to have a B18C in the civic like all these guys do. I dunno. What can I do with the D15 block? Is it the same as the B16 with different stroke/bore(??) and SOHC? Or is it a nice paperweight (boatanchor etc etc).
Crazy fella I know told me to shoehorn a V6/smallblock V8 in there...scare the locals...anyone done/heard of this? I heard of Buick motors getting dropped in the back of VW Bugs back in the day...
Any of course peolple ask my why dont I just mod the GSR? I dunno. Its a sweet ride, and ENDYNs SC looks damn sweet in that Type R...But the car is so new I would hesitate to modify it heavily. I think it would stink to see a car I make payments on all tore up and undriveable.
The civic doesnt get much mileage anymore, except for when it rains alot or I need to haul something in the big hatch. I was thinking of selling it for another project, but now i am starting to think its the project car I have been looking so hard for, and its been right in front of me the whole time.
Whaddya think?

If you are looking to have a project car to play with the CIvic is a perfect platform!....but there is a way to save yourself the trouble of doing a auto to manual swap...since the auto is worth some extra $$$...sell the auto 94 Civic....and buy yourself a high mileage 92 manual VX(its the lightest Civic)....with the money left over after buying the cheap 92 do an engine swap...I personally just bought a 92 Civic VX Hatch for $2500 in mint condition...it had 110,000 miles when I bought it

There are numerous differences that account for the weight differences. Accesssories such as AC, sunroof, sound deadening material, larger engine(Si), etc.

Well you can go for a CX or a VX since they are pretty much the lightest of the bunch....the reason that I like the VX the most is that it has some extra stock features that dont come on the CX or DX hatchbacks....such as a Tachometer...it helps if you are looking for the sleeper look(no dash mounted monster tach) and also the ultra light 13 inch alloy wheels...what you do is just swap on a set of slicks on the front....and you already have the light weight rims in the rear...and besides if I got a CX what good would my license plate be....1 FASTVX

Wow guys this is good stuff!
What makes the differences in the weights of these models?
VX Si CX DX (all manual '1992)
2094 2326 2094 2178
I don't see the advantage of getting a VX if the motor is the weight difference, since it looks like the motor will be promptly removed...
